Chaplain
A chaplain in the Army National Guard supports the spiritual well-being of Soldiers and their families. You'll provide advice in matters pertaining to religion, morals and morale.
Chaplains are non-combatant and don't carry weapons. Security is provided by the chaplain assistant, who also assists with the administrative aspects of the ministry and does carry a weapon.
Duties include:
- Overseeing a full program of religious ministries, including workshops, counseling sessions, religious education and special events
- Officiating at worship services, military functions, funerals, memorials and other military functions
- Providing religious ministry to armed service personnel and civilians from foreign nations and agencies
Chaplain Assistant
Chaplain assistants are enlisted Soldiers who support chaplains during their missions and everyday activities-primarily, Unit Ministry Team programs and worship services.
Duties include:
- Coordinating Unit Ministry Team activities
- Maintaining physical security of Unit Ministry Team facilities and equipment
- Safeguarding privileged communications and offerings
- Arranging religious retreats and memorial ceremonies
- Supporting the Unit Ministry Team readiness program
- Maintaining chaplain vestments and religious items
