Well lets start with...Why do YOU want to join the National Guard? What type of job do you have now? Are you happy, or do you want a change?

Well im am currently unemployed, used to have a sales job. also i dont want anyone to break down the jobs for me, i already know what the job descriptions are i junt want some tip from people who may have 1 of these 19 jobs that will help me narrow down my choices.
I chose national guard because they are offering me $40,000 if i got active first for the army and then an extra 20,000 for comming back to the national guard.
i know i'm a green horn at this stuff thats why i'm asking questions.

Well if you are going active first, you may want to check and see what job are available for actice first, first and then narrow the list down from there?

42A is kinda boring. I'm not a 42A, but i work in our S1 shop at my unit on drill weekends and do all the 42A stuff. It's paperwork, but it is a vital role in the army. If you do that your AIT is at fort jackson.

don't feel bad about having so many options. You should have seen my list a few days ago.. My buddy who servers active told me this. Get on the internet, and look at the jobs. List the ones that interest me. Then after the test, when the recruiter shows the MOS i can pick. Check off the ones on my list that or not in it, and go from there. Any how all factors pointed to combat for me. So I'll be enlisting 11B next week. I guess i always loved hard work, sweating, and getting dirty.. Probably why I'm currently a firefighter:eek:
Hope you find the MOS for you, and talking to people in a MOS is a great way to see if its for you. As they will tell you the ups and downs of it, and likes and dislikes if any(recruiters not so great).
P.S: I think he meant people in those MOS's, and not just one person break them all down.

Is this a male or female by this screen name? anyway, since you use to be in sales; perhaps down the road, you can become a recruiter like SKI. Also they have civilians working in recruiting positions and they have the $2K that you can earn if you successfully get someone to join and complete boot.
But its great that you have alot of options and that your recruiter is not spoon-feeding you. Also check out the local units in your area to see what jobs are available since driving distance might be a factor in your choice. You might not want to drive 200 miles to drill.

How long are you usually in service before becoming a recruiter? or is that an MOS?

SPC SKI can tell you about the requirements for the guard.
But on the active side, you can volunteer or be a DA select and its basically an assignment. You have to finish recruiting duty to graduate and recruit. Its usually a 3 year tour. Some recruiters like it so much that they become a permanent recruiter and their MOS changes to reflect that. On the flip side, I knew a few that got fired.
There is the corporal recruiting program as well. So you have to be an NCO (so as long as it takes you to become an NCO then you can qualify). The website has further qualifications.

Mamy recruiters that I know that served; they wouldn't wish that assignment on their worst enemy; would rather deploy or work on the trail (Drill Sergeant duty) instead.

MOS for the guard is 79T. You can also get a SQI 4. It depends on your state, but they like you to be a NCO. A really high speed SPC :D could get the job. there is no time in service requirement. I got 9 years in.

you may also want to check and see what is critical in your state. That will help to set you up for promotion beyond E4.

Can they give you a lateral promotion to CPL? If not, then why?

Me personally ...no, I am not AGR, I am ADOS, ADSW, GWOT, or whatever they are calling it this week. If I went AGR, Then I would be in an E7 slot, and there would be nothing to stop me from get promoted as soon as TIS, and TIG permit.
