deployment times

I know deployments are now 12 months long. In the NG since we have 2-3 months for MOB training, would that leave 9-10 months in theater or is that separate from the 12 months?

Just from the few I know of first hand, MOB is included. But they are also saying that because it is less than a year actually overseas, not everyone is getting leave while they are there. Normally you get at least one, about two week, leave. I thought (could be wrong) the new 12 months thing that starts in...October is it....is more for active Army. NG for the most part was doing 12 months. Of course there are always exceptions.

All the guard units I came across down range were away from their families for about 18 months. They were MOBed; did months of refresher training and were on lockdown on their base. Then did their 12 months in IRAQ. But again, you go to Kuwait first; do some more refresher/desert training e.g. convoy live fire before heading to IRAQ/ASTAN. It was fun hanging out with the Puerto Rico National Guard on the FOBs; they sure made their time go by fast.

Oh I see where the misunderstanding was. I'm from Wisconsin, the best units around. We just dont need as much training. JK!! But i'm not sure what it is, most of our units were only gone for 12 months already, including MOB. I do know that MOB is being included in the time now though. Least here in cheeseland.

Yea, I knew a guy from Kenosha that always said that same thing but never backed it up and always got his butt kicked by other soldiers lol

Oh him, he is a transplant. lol I had to. Its funny, i've been out of state and someone has asked where i'm from. I tell them Wisconsin. First after they find out it is a state, they say they know someone from there, tell me the name and ask if I know them. lol

I consider that city to be Racine, not Kenosha. But close. I'm in the middle of the state, only about 50 miles from Fort Mccoy. Cow country.

I dont have to worry about all that. i'm being MOB'd Just to Kuwait.

Born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx; everyone asks if I know some Julio or Jose from there. The Bronx if it was seperate from NYC will be the sixth largest city in America. That is how big it is so imagine Brooklyn and Queens. When I went to the State University at Buffalo, I met a guy up there and found out this same person lived in my apartment building but I never saw him in my life lol. That is New York for you lol I lived in a 6 story building.

I had 24 kids in my high school graduation class. lol! Although the high school in the city over, has about 350/class. Grew up smalltown, but now live in city next to it. Still pretty small though. I appreciete my roots. Didnt growing up, but I do now. You just have to know that where you come from (when in a small town like that) isnt like the rest of the country. You need to travel and see other places and people.

The SecDef changed all RC mobilizations to max 400 days (which allows time for terminal leave at the end, which is very much in your favor) sometime around the February 2007 timeframe. This works out to 1-3 months of training in CONUS, and 9-11 months in theater.

What we're finding is that this limitation looks good on one level, but on another isn't as great. Since our units don't have a full year on site, we need to have two units mobilized every year to fulfill one requirement. Obviously that cycles our units faster. It's a judgment call ... do you want to deploy more often for shorter duration, or fewer occasions for longer periods? Both sides have merit, and the SecDef has chosen the first one, because he's trying to do what makes the most sense for the individual Soldier on the ground.

Well lets hope that remains the case. From the expectations of my 1 yr deployed to 2 years then 18 months then 1 year dwell time in the active component; just showed that you dont get your hopes up. At least the RC can savor the longer dwell time regardless of the shorter duration or fewer times.
