can you bring your contacts / glasses with you and they just lock them up until you graduate? or would i have to have my wife bring them for me when i graduate bct? I KNOW you cant wear them at basic, you have to be issued the BCG's, i am referring to after basic right at graduation, or am i graduating with my bcg's? :)

You will be graduatings with BCGs and not authorized to wear anything else while on Post.
Some AITs allow you to wear "standard" non fashion glasses when you get there, some still make you wear your BCGs
I would have the wife bring em, put em in your bags, and wait to find out when you get to AIT. ;)

Yes you can bring them. I dont remember how I had them in my locker, if I hid them or I just had them and knew I couldnt wear them. We had one VERY thorough shake down and nothing was said about them, so i'm leaning towards I could have them, just not wear them. If you cant have them, they will gladly put them away until you are authorized. There is always a chance of lose or damage, up to you.
We graduated with a few other companys. We had to wear BCG (I opted for nothing) but other ones were allowed to have them on graduation and even a few days beforehand. As with so many things, it just depends on the Installation/Bn/Company/Platoon. It would be nice to have one standard answer to some of these questions, but there just isnt one. Ten soldiers going through training at different locations will have ten different answers.
Contacts were a no-go in my Ait but civilian glasses (within reason) were fine, again, it varies as stated.

They guys in my BCT company graduated with BCGS. But at AIT people were allowed to get contacts or wear their glasses because BCGS are often the wrong prescription.

Yeah in my AIT, it was impossible to keep track of every soldier.
we had 550 students in my barracks, all at different days in their classses with all different MOSs in the 25 Series. Some were on week 2, some on week 23, so it was hectic kinda.
We were allowed to wear contacts or glasses, whatever we wanted. Alot of people just went over to the PX and got new prescriptions.

do you get your glasses at reception based on your prescription from MEPS, or do you bring the script with you to BCT?

My husband just left for Basic Tuesday. His recruiter said that things go smoother and faster if you have your prescription. The info my hubby got is that if you don't have a prescription with you, they use your civi glasses to make the issued ones and they usually aren't right.

A girl I work with told me today that before she went to basic a year ago, she had Rx glasses made especially for the range (ANSI standard, etc.) They were of a simple design but her right Rx and fit her well. She took them with her to BCT and of course got issued the BCGs to wear 24/7. Apparently she knew that the BCGs were going to give her a problem when shooting her weapon in the prone postion. (We all tote guns here in the Wild wild west!) Since the BCGs kept sliding down her nose the DI allowed her to get the glasses she brought with her and wear them when qualifying. she said that they allowed her to wear those glasses instead of the BCGs at graduation, but that was because she had a perfect 300 PFT score.
My point? Don't have one.... LOL. Every experience will be different. All you can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best! ;)

You will get your BCG's from your thing at MEPS. They did a hole new test when i got down to BCT. And they didnt make them wear there BCG;s at grad. Alot of people weared there eye contacts cause you get your person bag back the day before and they all but them in for grad.
