Voting in Basic

My hubby is in Basic at Ft. Knox right now and still in reception. He left last Tuesday. I know he wants to vote, and I'm sure it's encouraged. We made sure before he left that he is registered in the right county. We didn't even think about how it works when he's on an army base in a different state. Is there anything I can or should do now from home to help him be able to vote in November? I've heard a little about voting by proxy but have no clue how that works. Sorry for being so cluless and thanks for any input!

Thank you! Can I request the absentee ballot for him, have it sent to our house and then send it to him once I finally get a real address for him? Or could that just make things more complicated if they are going to have him do it from Ft. Knox?

It all depends on your town clerk. When I went through basic in 2006, my wife took my address and a copy of the POA to the town clerks office and they sent an absentee ballot directly to me at basic training.

I had to do it during my 30 minutes of personal hygiene prior to lights out in the evening ( or on fireguard or whatnot ), and then I sent it directly back to the town clerks office.

Thanks. Looks like I'll be making a trip down to the sub-courthouse and figure things out. He thought there would be some procedure at Ft. Knox but if I can make anything smoother for him, I want to. He's got enough going on without worrying about how to vote.

I sure hope he's not vomiting in Basic! :eek: I know it's supposed to be hard but I hope not that bad!
