How does it work? Does the military provide me a ticket to get home, or do they allow me to pick a ticket? The reason I ask is my wife is going to come down for my graduation. We would like to fly back together if possible. Is this possible?

Are you split training? or are you talking about your graduation from AIT. The National guard will pay for your ticket and you dont get much of a choice in when it is just the day its on.

Just basic since my AIT is back here in California. Will I at least know the ticket is in advance? that way my wife can try to get on the same flight?

Wintermute- You are O9S correct? Are you going to be headng to Fort Benning for the 12 weeks Federal OCS then?
If not, what is your AIT?

Day after graduation, everyone will form up and go to where theyre going.
So, you will more than likely be flying out the day after grad to your AIT.

No, I go to basic at Fort Jackson then come home. After my last RSP session I will go to RSP-O until they decide if I go accelerated or traditional.
So right after basic I come back to California until OCS decides what to do with me.

You will not know until you start your training cycle but if might change. Many factors can change the graduation date even though the training cycle is already forecast. About a month to 3 weeks of graduation you should be totally locked the day that you graduate. And Qcomer is right. The day you graduate is the day you get on the bus and head to the airport (but that was my Fort LeonardWood experience, the other locations should operate the same). The DS wants who is leaving the heck out of there.

That is what I meant, I know you are going to BCT (as am I in 6 days), I was referring to after that.
I am in a similar situation as I will come back and drill with my unit until a spot is cleared for me at OCS. Although my recruiter is SURE that I am going Federal which is the 12 weeks at Benning I mentioned.
When do you leave for BCT?

We found out how we were getting home the day before. If you are going home after basic, just have your wife get the cheapest flight for herself and meet in the airport or when you get home. I wouldnt worry too much about trying to get the same flight because it will be really hard unless you want to pay for your ticket home.

Not necssarily. We had a soldier whose mother couldn't make it to her basic training grad so she went down to see her graduate from AIT. Our soldier booked he ticket with her moms and paid for it out of pocket. However she filed her travel voucher when she got home and got the money back.
So if they want to do that, it is totally an option.

Out of curiousity.....does graduation for basic or AIT tend to occur on Saturdays (for ease of family wanting to come see it) or does it just occur whenever regardless of the day of the week?
