Howdy,

I was recently discharged from the Air Force with a seperation code of JFF (seperated commissioning program) and a RE code of 4L (secretarial authority). I am still interested in serving, but it seems that an RE code of 4 doesnt usually get in. I was wondering if there are any waivers I could get or how I would appeal to have my RE code changed.

Additionally, I am interested in joining the Montana National Guard and was curious about a couple things. I want to enlist as a 19D Cavalry Scout and was wondering if Montana has openings for that MOS quite often, or if there is usually a wait. Also, I was curious about what the training would be that I go through.

Basically, since I am technically considered prior service, would I attend basic training like a non prior service soldier, or would I end up going through the Warrior Transition Course. Additionally, in regards to the fact that I am prior service, would that at all limit my possible MOS options (I didnt have a specific job training since I was in cadet status).

Also, what information do I exactly need to enlist. Since I am prior service I would assume my DD214 is a given, but what else would I need (birth certificate, social security card, etc). Sorry for the essay, but any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You should not have any problems getting in the Guard. It should be a simple waiver. As far as the MOS goes you can go online and find your nearest career counselor and ask him what all is available. It shouldn't be to hard from there. GOOD LUCK!!

If I am prior service marine with an RE-4 but with honorable discharge and good separation codes, what are my chances of getting waivered?

I have been trying to return to service for more than 7 years with no success. I also have a case awaiting a decision from the Naval Board of Corrections. My discharge, as I stated, was originally honorable; my separation code for my EAS was MBK1 and my separation code for the end of my IRR was KBK3 both are normal end of service codes. I simply do not understand why it is so difficult to continue serving my country.

Hey i have the same problem. I'm applying for an NGB waiver. I don't understand why AF cadets that seperate have a RE code of 4 even with an honorable discharge.

I had a NDRB also, the best thing to do is to get a wavier from the Guard. I doubt, they will change your codes, they may change three discharges, per year, out of hundreds. Plus it takes a long time, just get with a recruiter who is willing to send a waiver for you. Forget the discharge review, I wouldn't hold my breath.

And if you do, go for the discharge review find a lawyer that will help. Unless you think you can handle the paper work on your own.

I also got re-4 from the USN, and the Guard may waive it. I can't wait to sing that contract.
