After 2 trips to MEPS, I finally got the body fat down (started at 260 now at 209) and I am excited and nervous at the same time! I ship out to basic at Ft. Jackson next May. My kids were excited at the news and now we'll have to see how this 39 year old (turning 40 in Basic) will handle the challenge.
Hooah!

Congratulations!
What are you going to go to AIT for as a MOS?
I deliver tremendous respect for your age and that you're taking this step forward and your children must be very proud of you I am sure. :)

MOS is 92Y Unit Supply. Scored a 94 on ASVAB and wanted to pursue Human Intelligence but I didn't want to spend the time away from home that that training required. AIT is in Virginia. Kids are proud but they're going to miss dad for 4 months :( . My recruiter was at my son's middle school this past week and when he mentioned that a student's dad had just joined, they all gave me son a round of applause when they said who it was. I told my son that the applause was for him and not me because he was making a sacrifice stepping up as the man of the house while I'm gone.

i will be going to MEPS on the 30th of november and i am also going in as a 92Y. i am shipping out in feb for basic. Congradulations.
Congrats Dad of 2 -
I just turned 43 and have not been able to convince the Guard to let me in - I finished up Basic with my State Militia and kicked butt. I wish the Guard could have wittnessed what a 42 y/o could do when in shape and full of determination. I applaud you and look forward to hearing how it all goes at basic. Way to go soldier.

I go to fort benning in august for basic and then i'll be doing ocs on weekends for the next 18 months....I'm 36 by the way...so I appreciate where you're coming from!......I scored a 95 .....maybe our increased age translates to better scores...whatever the army and our country will surely benefit!!....good luck!

Thats great! I'm Glad, that is a great thing to do. I am just turning 18, and my parents arnt to Happy though, but many of my peers are proud that I am stepping up and taking responsibility.
I feel bad not having that high a score on my ASVAB.... Everyone I read about on here has in the 90's, and I had a 68.
