Hi everybody,

I am seriously considering joining the National Gaurd, and I figured I would be able to ask you guys some questions I have and learn somthing.

Is it hard to qualify expert with the M16-A2?

I enjoy hunting and shooting, and I try to shoot a few times a week. I consider myself a decent shot. But I dont have much experance at all with peep sights. I would really like to earn an expert badge in BCT.

Regards,

Dan.

You get a pretty decent instruction at Basic Training on firing the M-16. I found that it was fairly difficult to qualify expert in basic training because of the stress level. There was only one soldier in my platoon (out of 39) that qualified expert (and it wasn't me). Once I got to my unit, we focused on marksmanship more, and got more trigger time. By the time my unit qualified, I was able to qualify expert. The more time you can spend firing an M-16, the more likely you are to do well. Pay attention to the fundamentals of marksmanship: Steady firing position, proper sight picture and aiming, breath control, and trigger squeeze. You will learn the basics during rifle marksmanship training in Basic Training, but after that, it is up to you to utilize the training, and practice.

So you have chances to requalify, and do better after your marksmanship qualifcation in basic? I thought what you earned their is what you were labled with.

You have to requalify every so often. I barely qualified in Basic. Now I am a sharp shooter only a couple away from expert. Good luck.
