Basic Training is very challenging both physically and mentally. The thing to remember is that thousands of people make it through each year. Many of them are in worse shape than you are when they start out. It's all about attitude. You CAN make it through. If you never quit, and do what you are asked to do, you WILL succeed. As far as what to bring, after you enlist, you will receive a packing list. Don't sweat the small stuff...and its all small stuff.

Best thing - keep your mouth shut, and your ears open. Do EXACTLY what they tell you to do. It's all about team work.

runningwild,

the first two weeks are usually the tough part both mentally and physically, but every recruit that i have sent to basic has come back saying it was the most fun they ever had in their life. keep a good attitude while you are there and it will be tough but have fun with it.

My experience:

Basic is designed to be very challenging, but, it is also designed to provide you with the training and tools you need to make it through.

If you show up with the attitude... "I will make it" you will make it.

I have seen folks show up that can't run half a mile, and do more than 10 push-ups. They're able to pass the PT test, and have lost some weight, and look and feel good by the end of the program.

The military wouldn't let you in if they didn't think you couldn't make it. (IE physically or mentally.)
