I am over weight... I need to slim down. What is the maximum weight limit to join the national guard? I was hoping to look for a career as an combat engineer. What are the physical requiremanets for that as my M.O.S?

I am too joining and I am over the weight requirements. I have begun a serious workout routine, working on my cardio and my pushups. I am women who can not do a push up but I am working on that. I guess if you really want u just have to work hard at it. good luck

I recommend NOT lifting weights. All cardio. Chances are if you are 100 lbs overweight, you can already lift a lot of weight. Unless you can't move. Your heart and lungs are what need the workout. Also, lifting weights is going to add mass and weight to your already stressed frame.

I agree with SPC Dickerson. In addition to working exclusively on cardio (at least for a while) You should consider reducing the portions that you eat. You will be hungry as your activitiy level increases, but if you discipline yourself to eat less, you will eventually be satisfied with less food, and the pounds will drop.

Me and my dad have started a diet and exercize program yesterday. We bought these diet and protien shakes to supliment two meals out of the day. And when we do actually eat it is relatively small portions. Yesterday I Power walked about three and a half miles. I am going to dust off the tredmill in the garage and start running and walking every day. And work on my push ups. And thanks for the advice.
P.S- I promise not to lift weights...that much.

Yes true lifiting does make you add weight and mass. Don't Lift weights. Just jog, run, push ups, situps. Also drink only water and milk, coke and other products slow down your system I do not know about power aid. Don't take diet pills it is not good for your system. So Good Luck.

Bud, I know for a fact because two sergeants and my recruiter told me when you go to meps and they drug test you will fail the drug test. I don't undestand why but each diet pill has something in it that will make you fail.
What kind of diet pills ?

For anyone who is trying to attain a physical fitness standard it is important to note that this is not an easy thing to do... and there are no quick ways to do it.
AVOID DIET PILLS AND FADS LIKE THE PLAGUE... in the case of Phen fen and ephedra - they just might kill you... well maybe not, but they have.
The truth is you must increase calorie burning coupled with decreased calorie intake. To loose wieght you need to focus on high aerobic challenges, and avoid wieghts. You need to increase your stamina and body strength which helps to retool your body.
After several weeks if you maintain a routine of stretching and excercise, proper diet with small portions and no junk foods or heavily processed foods, you will have started a habit of better health. At the point that you attain your goal of wieght loss and incresed body strength you can look at adding wieghts to your workout schedule. Snacks? well who can live without them, just in moderation and perhaps more fruit and nuts than twinkies and moonpies...
Diet and Excercise also tend to be cheaper than wasting hard earned money on fad pills that promise the world and deliver nothing but more late night marketing infomercials. If they did work doctors would prescribe them and the world would be a slimmer place without any effort.
Here are some sites you can use to help you along:
http://www.hooah4health.com
http://www.apft.net
http://health.discovery.com
There are many free resources online and in the real world to help you in achieving your goal! Do not rely on opinions, rely on proven facts... in the end DIET and EXCERCISE will be the answer you need.
I also would make this recommendation... My wife got me a subscription for Men's Health magazine (http://www.menshealth.com/cda/homepage.do) for the holidays - well to be honest I really do like it and there is a lot of good information (the verifiable type) about diet and excercise... among other things :)
For the women out there, there is also a Women's Health magazine (http://www.womenshealthmag.com/)... although I cannot attest to it :)
Best of luck, and I hope this helps!!!

The pills I am taking are not exactly diet pills, they are more of a energy booster for the day when you work-out. Are those still bad?

While in training, you will not be able to take any pills that aren't necessary and prescribed by a doctor for your health. Energy supplements are not allowed and would be taken by the Drill SGTs during shake down.

Remember you can lose all the wieght in the world but what really matters is your bodyfat percentage..... just cut it back to 3 meals a day or even maybe 2 with a snack in the middle dont "stop" eating that will produce no energy for you to do cardio ...
My story: i was 50 lbs over wieght and when i went into B.C.T. but i had the tape test... i passed with a 23% bodyfat not to bad i said but when i went into basic and left i really didnt lose much wieght i still wieghed 225 but with 16% body fat and i feel fit as a glove but thats my story ...
I to agree lay off the wieghts and start cardio but only watch what you eat dont stop... diet pills will not help, remember you cant have them in B.C.T. just keep your P.T. a regular and keep pushing yourself a lil harder every day
"a tiny step foward, is better than a giant leap backwards..."
GOOD LUCK!!
