OC Alagie Barrow - Path To Honor

Officer Candidate (OC) Alagie Barrow has trained in a variety of areas during his National Guard service, including Food Service Specialist, Human Resources, Primary Leadership and Development Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (Phase I), and Recruiting and Retention Course.

I joined the National Guard in 2001 to pay for college. I left for Basic and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in 2002, and my unit was activated in 2003 for Operation Enduring Freedom. I represented my major command (MACOM) as Soldier of the Year in 2004 at the state level.

I graduated from college in 2005, and started working full time for the Guard as recruiter/career counselor. That same year, I was promoted to staff sergeant, and enrolled in Officer Candidate School in 2007 because I have always wanted to be an officer. My experience in the Guard helps my decision making and has enabled me to attain most of my goals in life, such as getting a BS degree and securing a job that I enjoy doing.
